Pentium 4 2.0Ghz or Athlon XP 2000
Pentium 4 2.0Ghz or Athlon XP 2000
which one is faster/better WITHOUT the price difference and the .13micron / .18micron core and heatissue's just raw performance ? not sure if the pentium 4 2.0GHz is the northwood version, and if it is the northwood? and i also know that the athlon xp 2000 is rated at 1.67GHz, and i know that the athlon xp has more IPC then the P4, and that IPC and clock frequency equals true CPU performance, but who wins? and also at default stock speeds, because im not planning to overclock
do they have about the same performance?
*edit*
heh also explain why you picked the p4 or axp?
i know they need ram; if the axp was using the fastest 512MB DDR memory , and the p4 was using the fastest 512MB RDRAM, and motherboards can make a difference too, you chose the motherboards, and also , they both have the same peripherals in the PC, besides the CPU and ram

It all comes down to your purpose... what will the machine be used for?Originally posted by newbie1

If you're looking at the P4 2.0 vs the XP 2000+.....here's an old comparison:

You do want the Northwood...and the "A" designation has to be there, not a plain 2.0 for the Willamette, but the 2.0a for a Northwood.

yeah the northwoods are the socket 478 versions, the only reason why i wasn't sure if it was the northwood version was not because i didn't know the difference between the northwood and the williamette, it was because my friend wasn't sure if he was getting the northwood or the williamette, and i wanted to know "pentium 4 2.0GHz vs. athlon xp 2000+" and pentium 4 2.0aGHz vs. athlon xp 2000+ sorry should have made my post with more of a description so you could understand what i was looking for
