Although I understand the meaning of the gesture and I support it. I'm kinda getting sick of everyone thinking they're a patriot just because they hang a flag.

1. How about this year everyone who cheats on their taxes report everything they earned.

2. How about coming to a full stop at a stop sign

3. How about paying all those old parking tickets so the city dosen't have to farm out the collection process to an outside company.

4. How about when you go to the beach or park you pick up a piece of trash and throw it away.

5. How about not calling in to work sick when you want the day off and you're not really sick. This effects all of us by lost productivity.

Patriotism is not a one day thing. Its a lifestyle.

I understand and I am not criticizing anyone for doing so.

But if everyone is so involved why did they have to go out and buy a flag? I've had one for 25 years and fly it every holiday. All these patriots didn't have a flag?

p.s. If the president asked me to go fight I would.

i have always been a huge patriot. how many times have you seen Dont tread on me.... Live free or die!!! in my sig. i had it there long before 9/11 then had to take it down for the whole 6 line deal but decided to put it back up because i dont think anybody would have that much of a problem with it. you know what though i dont even own a flag. i dont see how having a flag makes you a patriot. i show my patriotism by always standing and saying the pledge to the flag in the morning when most people dont (well now they do but i mean before all this). ive always had patriotic things in banners i make for other forums i visit that let you have banners in your sig and you can just ask april i have always loved studying americas history and know alot about how america began. the bad thing is is that now i feel kinda weird being a patriot like people are going to think that im only this way because of the WTC when i have always been this way and i just get soooooo friggen enraged when i hear people talking about how great america is and see them with flags when i heard them say before how they hated this country and how america sucks. i think ive probly gotten way off topic here so i guess i'll just shut up now and go back to reading posts.

I do not see the relevence to the aforementioned and patriotism. I do all the follow but the full stop... funny, I do not feel anti-American for it...

This will be the 30th day commemoration in honor of our fallen friends desecrated by the
terrorists' attacks on NYC, the Pentagon, and the high jacked plane that crashed in PA.

The purpose of driving with headlights on this day will:
1). Show our respect, friendship, and tribute to all of those individuals that lost their lives on that dreadful September 11, 2001 day.
2). Show our concern for the family members of those individuals.
3). Show those uncouth terrorists that the fabric of the USA is stronger than steel.
4). Show that we Americans have solidarity standing shoulder to shoulder against any terrorists' acts upon the USA.
Sorry if people all of a sudden feeling the urge to fly the flag makes you sick, but events like this tend to have that effect. People want to show their support in some way, and this is the best, most visible way of doing it.

well david, what I read into his post was a generic general message,I thought he was just using those as a few examples,I took it as that keep up ones self integrity all the time, don't just be nice and patriotic ,when it's politically correct.

keep up integrity and self asteem and pride all the time,if you really have it inside.

self integrity and doing the right thing and pride are all aspects of being a patriot to me.

atleast thats the way I took it,thats why I said I agree.

I feel that the focus is lost as to why do these "patriotic" deeds in time of crisis. It is a sense of community rather than country. We have been hurt, loved one lost to a despicable act. The flag waving and cap wearing is our own personal way to demonstrate that we care for our fellow Americans in their dark hours. Like a family that quarrels, if you attack one of them, expect the sisters and brothers to close ranks and fire back as a unit.

I am not a nationalist. I am not a hawk (Shoot, I am an ethical veghead who wouldn't harm a fly). I personally detest the President. In these times, however I stand by him and protect my American family

david

PS.

Dan,

I see your point... Integrity is important. However, It is with great difficulty that anyone could be so consistant.... Patriotism is not a religion or code of ethics... it is more an emotion.

"Sorry if people all of a sudden feeling the urge to fly the flag makes you sick"

I don't remember saying anything about it making me sick.

I think Crazyman gets the idea. I just wish everyone didn't try and read some anti american sentiment into this post

Look, I know you probably didn't mean it as a personal attack or anything of that nature, but I'm from a very patriotic family (my father was in the Army, as well as his dad, my grandfather on my mom's side was in the Navy, as was I - spent 11 years in) and something like that blanket statement just got to me, that's all...

Easto,

I was not thinking you as anti-American at all. Quite the contrary, I feel you are very pro-American. I just do not like being made to feel guity or hypocritical.

Also, kudos for not crapping on the other thread.

10-4, I understand a lot of people (including myself) are fit to be tied by the 9/11 disaster.

This is just a forum. I am not offended by anything anyone says. I take it as your opinion and I respect. I just ask the same.
