IMHO, this is looking pretty freaking good. I havn't read the books before (fantasy stuff doesn't intrest me too much), but I think I might after seeing this trailer. And this is only part 1!
BIGJIMSLATE, read the books they're awesome. Start with The Hobbitt for background then read the LOTR trilogy! They are worth far more than their fantasy content.

They are great reading..read them in school..can hardly wait to see the movie..
Originally posted by Modus Operandi Not really. The books aren't that great of reads... The only reason they got popular, was because it was the first time a non-amatuer writer wrote a fantasy book. The books, I'd give a C+, maybe a B-, but I read a lot... For someone who doesn't read much, they aren't worth it, and the movie has been said to be rather sappy in plot.
80% Hype, 10% Good movie, 10% disappointment.

Tolkein's books are great man, that's why nearly all fantasy authors are compared to Tolkein's ability.
I haven't read them in a while, so they may have lost some of their appeal, but they are still a book anyone should read.

BTW, no I did not have homemade applecrisp last night.
These are some of the most exceptional books ever written, and would reccommend them beyond most others (Dune series by Frank Herbert being next in line.) I was somewhat dissappointed by the first attempts at making movies of Tolkien's work, but this looks more like it...
A Speaker for the Dead
(We all have to start somewhere.)
