Whats the "IP: Logged" thing for?

I noticed that theres a "IP: Logged" link on the bottom right of each reply. When i click it it says something like I dont have permission to view. Well, whats the "IP: Logged" thing for?

IT shows the persons IP for mods, incase of stolen identity, needs for banning, etc.

At least they keep the IP hidden. Before I found SG, I was a regular a small time broadband security site that did NOT hide IP's on their forums...Kinda funny...they tell ya how people use the IP to break in and bypass firewalls, yet they display the IP...?

It's that file you have on your c drive that says "Garbage" documents or some other non interesting name, but is actually filled with nude pics of Estelle Getty and B. Arthur.
