What is the best multiplayer game going today. I currently play Counter strike. I would like to find a game with the realism of Counter strike but newer. Thanks in advance.

Get UnrealTournament and the mod Infiltration (www.planetunreal.com/infiltration) I play it a lot and it is really good. Lots of weapons, you have stamina, you aim with the actual weapons sites (not crosshairs stuck on u'r screen)...oh, it's free too.

i have been playing counter-strike for almost two years straight (since beta 1) and i can count the number of days i have missed playing it on one hand. any more questions?

cs isn't really team centered, unless you are a clannie or a LANie. i currently play FLF (FrontLineForce, another mod of half-life) and it has many pro team things (for example, you aim better when you have team-mates around [this mod is for fun, not realism]). The greatest thing about FLF is how its fun play even on public servers (if you tell 1/2 team to go to X and other half to Y, they do it [it does help to be the top player in the server

])

CS Team Play has nothing to do wit clans IMO. I play on great servers wit cool people. We stick around, cover are team mates....etc

The tactical ops mod for unreal tournament is awesome. I think it is better than the original CS. It even adds a tab to your unreal tournament multi player so you can easily find servers to play it on.

Having been through Doom/Duke/Quake/Quake2/HalfLife/Unreal/Quake3/UnrealTournament.......I'm now into Rune, specifically the 1v1Arena Dueling aspect of it...very intense with one on one duels.

POWERHOUSE, TacOps is pretty good...that was the first mod counter-terroism, CS-like mod that I played on UT and thought it was pretty good. But if you like that, seriously give Infiltration a try...much much better than TacOps in my opinion. Much more realistic (example, there's a stamina factor that depends on how much your Loadout is...if u have a lot of things in u'r Loadout, u run slower and use up stamina faster, which affects u'r aiming). I haven't been back to TacOps since.

Yeah I see you guys are talking mostly FPS multiplayer on this thread, but since the question *IS* 'what is the best multiplayer game?' then the answer is very obvious.

Everquest is the game of all games- it's multiplayer, making it the obvious choice. It is, in my mind and without question, the greatest release in PC gaming of our time. It is blazing new trails, forging ahead on the gaming frontier, while your FPS games are becoming lost in the settling dust. And It should rightly be heralded this way. Whether or not Verant had the foresight in the beginning stages of EQ is debatable. What is not debatable, however, is the reality that the Everquest product dominates it's genre like the way the St Louis Rams offense dominates opposing defenses.

In time, when a history of PC gaming / video games in general is written, we are going to talk about only 3 games from the beginning until today. 1 will be Pong. 2 will be Doom. And 3 will be Everquest.

Mark my words.

The question is "WHAT IS THE BEST MULTI PLAYING GAME ONLINE" ...well be specific (really its preference)I will say both UT and CS are both great games online but if you mean the most people on 1 game....? Starcraft Broodwar has to be the largest amounts of people on servers throughout the world gamewise, but the best multiplayer 3d game...would be UT unless u like "6" color games like CS, CS offers great gameplay multi but UT has better graphics.These games have to be put in sections....best game RP is diablo 2 online...sorry but i know atleast 35 people myself who have it and no other RP game.Now when Warcraft 3 hits the market....kiss all the others good bye..for awhile. :2cool:

How come you guys haven`t mentioned Subspace?Its been here for 7 years and its got millions of registered users,and im not talking bull here,at the most famous arena there are almost 100 players in at the suckiest times,like mornings or server problems.... and at peak times more than 250!I suggest you guys try it out,because it seems you never heard of it,if you have why didnt you put it as the best game ever?

Quake2 lfire CTF is the best imo - great test of individual duelling skill + teamplay. The gameplay is at a constant, fast pace, and the balance of weapons is perfect.

Rocket Arena 2 / 3 are both good, I prefer rocket arena 3 because of the pace of the game, no camping and non-stop action !

I never got into counterstrike - I just havent got the patience to sit behind walls, waiting for someone to see me with their spiked models. However, as someone else said in this thread - urbanterror - a kinda 'action quake / counterstrike for q3a' type mod looks very promising, and a new beta comes out this friday.

Yeah, Quake2 LFire was awesome, man, what memories. Man, haven't played that in years it seems.

I was sooo hooked on Quake1 back in the days. Anyone ever play on the Wessleyan server, they ran this mod, it was requiem like, where you have homing vore balls, flamethrower alternates for the nail gun, an awesome bungie like grapple hook. Wow was that awesome.

Then came Quake2, Half Life, Quake3, UT, Rune. I'm all about UT CTF and Rune lately.

I still love firing up Quake3 and doing some pure Longest Yard levels once in a while.

Never got into those role playing games, Everquest, etc. Not enough excitement for me.

I love TFC! I got into CS pretty good for a while, but then discovered Avantiville. Its a TFC server that runs mostly Avanti (one of my favorite maps) on a t1 line and they post the stats of any player that plays on it during a given week. They keep running totals and stats on weapons usage and everything. They even award people for things like most wrench kills that day. I'm pretty good at TFC, but the top guys on this server put me to shame. Still its gratifying to try a new tactic and see your ranking rise. Or y'know, just go for nothing but wrench kills :-) Does anyone know of a CS server that does stats like this?

Been playing Urban Terror lately too, not sure what to make of it yet, but awesome maps and eye candy.
