Reinstalling Win2K

Post by tod071 »

Having problems with Win2K and want to re-format HD and re-install W2K. How do I boot to DOS prompt, in order to format c:? Any other ways around the DOS prompt to format c:?

You need to use a boot disk. You can use a Win95 or Win98 boot disk, or a custom boot disk.

You will be better off to use a W2K boot disk set. You can make them from your CD. Go to the "bootdisk" folder.

It should take four floppies.

Good Luck

It would be faster to use a Win95/98 boot disk, if you already have one, obviously. Just use it to boot to DOS. Then type:

format c: /q

then cd to your CD-Rom and type:
cd i386
setup

If you don't have one, you can use a Win95/98 machine to create one.

Or you can go into the bios and change it to boot from the cd-rom, I think once it starts to load Win2k it will prompt you to what file system you want to format the disk with.
