PCI error

Post by bruinator »

hi, In device manager I noticed that I have 3 devices with yellow question marks next to them and I can't figure out why. I have access to the net through my intel pro/1000 pm nic card.

The 3 devices in question under device manager:

PCI device
PCI device
PCI serial port

Every time I delete them they always come back at bootup.

Can someone please help me out this on why it is coming up and how to fix it please?

thanks

normally a driver issue but someone in the hardware forum could probably be more specific.

Run windows update, see if it lists any hardware updates and that should tell you what they are.

it's installing 49 updates now. Do you think they have to do with my errors?

The updates are listed in sections, based on how you responded to the windows update comment I would say its one of the first tiems you've run it, so that may just be the critical ones. After they finish go back to the update page and on the left side there should be a hardware section, look in there to see if anything is listed.

PCI would be a nic card correct? Could there be 2 internel NIC cards on the mobo? I know I didn't install one in any PCI slot.

A tool like sisoft sandra would be able to tell you them, but it will list all pci devices.

You would have to know whats missing.

Just google sisoft sandra for a download link.

Open it and go to "PCI AGP Cardbus Information"

Then you can select what it lists in the adapter field.

Then it will list the stuff in the device field, PCI bus 0 should be all the onboard stuff.

With either application you are looking for a device listed in them that you dont have installed.

It wont say if its installed or not, but under device, if you select each one it will list the name of the card or chip.

Ok, I opened the PCI AGP info adn selected PCI bus 2, then under device it showed my lan card and in the info on the bottom gives me a windows device name and an oem device name.

So you wanna look at each PCI bus from bus 1 on and see whats missing.

Also do you know your motherboard model?
