Make sure the ISP will support the modem you purchase. Sometimes they require you to use their own and if you don't then anytime there is any kind of issue their tech supt won't even touch your issue.

#2
Ask your ISP if they're selling the modems currently in use. Sometimes you can get a discount.

Motoroal surfboard sb4200 is excellent quality. I had one when I had a cable modem connection to the net. Just dont go uncapping anything or else you're ISP will terminate your connection and toss your a** in jail for violating the TOS. Yes, this *has* been done before.

The best way to find a discount is to hop online and comparison shop. Best URLs are pricewatch.com and pricescan.com Sometimes you can get significantly discounted merchandise and depending where you are may get it tax free. In some instances, shipping is also free. It all depends you have to shop around. Just make sure that you dont get hosed with shipping fees so much so that it would have been cheaper to go to a store in person and purchase it even *with* sales tax.
