I can't figure out what my duplex should be!

Post by sthompson »

I am on Road Runner cable service here in the Indianapolis, Indiana area. We have a few different computers going into a Netgear hub here in my house, but they are not networked together.

Basically, last night I tried to call and talk to the nitwit that answered the phone at the Road Runner office to ask him what I should set the duplex to with my Intel 100/+ Management NIC card, and I told him about my setup. He said he had no idea and couldn't help. Great.

Anybody know a way I can find out? I went ahead and set it to 100MBps/Full Duplex and my connection is still working, but if that is not the proper setting that I should be setting it to, I would like to know so that I can hopefully boost speeds! :)

Thanks again!

Unless you go through a router, then I set it to full or on a network behind that router.
I never would use a hub. I think they slow you down. Have 2 I have not used in years.
Plus with just a hub, you butt is still open to the wind!

If you have a 10/100 hub and a uplink port .I would use auto for all the nic card. your modem is 10base T .so your uplink port is running at 10 T.I would say that if you are using more than one computer on line at the same time through a hub you will see some packet loss under a big load. Get a router.

(Anybody know a way I can find out) yes Look at the hub! A 10/100 hub has little lights on them .The little lights tell if you are at 10 or 100 for each port and uplink port . just look
