Using a miniDV camera & FireWire as a webcam?

Post by mountainman »

Can you do that? I would like to use it as a webcam and/or use it for such in MSN Messenger.

Does anyone know about this? I haven't tried it yet, so it is curiosity for now. Camera will be here in about 15 minutes.

Sorry, I don't know of any way of doing this. I would imagine that any software would also be quite taxing on your CPU, as its taking ~3.6MB/sec DV video and compressing it into video that's suitable for streaming over a (hopefully) broadband connection.

OK. Thanks for the insight. I am going to do some more searching on the net for something like this. But, I'm sure you are right about all the sources needed to take such high quality video and turn it into low enough quality to broadcast.

Thanks. :)
