I just look at task manager, sisoft sandra, 3dmark2001se, and directX, they all report 512mb, even the comp start-up post.

This is a fresh install of winXP, I think I had the same problem before a fresh format.

Yup. {nods head}. Optimal virtual memory for xp is appx. 1.5x the instaled RAM. Why you show 512Mb I have no idea (unless that's what yer VM is set to).

That's not the case, I am pretty sure I had 2 stick of 256mb working, since it was report correctly in task manager, sisoft sandra, 3dmark2001se, and directX. Only MS system information report the wrong info.
Another thing is my AVAILABLE MEMORY should be less than my PHYSICAL MEMORY.

CBR900RR: You have something hardware-wise wrong. One of your sticks is defective, or the slot is defective. You should show 512 physical when viewing SI.

Also, as a friendly word of advice, this board limits sigs to 5 lines of text. Anyway, I'd check to make sure you have both those sticks plugged in right. Something is physically wrong there. Let us know what you find out is the problem.

No, your availible is a combination of your total physical ram and the virtual memory(page file). The Availible Memory should be higher than the Physical. Physical Ram is the total size of the ram sticks.

Odd is right. Something about the motherboard that doesn't like those two sticks. You sure it's the right type of ram for the MB you have? It's definitely some sort of hardware problem.

I wouldn't worry about what the sys Info says, all them other pieces of prove is fine. One more thing you can try just to get the right reading is, Put your XP disk in the Rom, and close the autostart window, Then go to start then run and type in SFC /scannow. Let it verify and repair all the core files. It might not do sh*t but it's worth a shot. :D
