New tweaks again (W2K/XP)

Post by wangnan »

1)
BufferMultiplier = 8192
and
DefaultReceiveWindow = Absolute Value of (ISP Cap DL speed / 8) *8192
DefaultReceiveWindow = Absolute Value of (ISP Cap UL speed / 8) *8192

2)
ForwardBufferMemory = 8388608 (0x00800000)
and
MaxForwardBufferMemory = 8388608 (0x00800000)

3)
MaxNormLookupMemory is different from MaxForwardBufferMemory. If your computer is not used as a server, you should set MaxNormLookupMemory back to its default vaule, which is 150000 bytes. Larger value of MaxNormLookupMemory costs more RAM (eg. 2500000 bytes, 5000000 bytes...).
I want to have a new computer.

NUMBER 2 & 3:
[Do u add this mannually in the Regedit ? Cause there is no such setting in the cablenut. and the number, what is it should be... hex or deci?]

Just wanna try to clear this up :)

wangman the first values you posted are a bit high, the values DefaultReceiveWindow & DefaultSendWindow should be - your caps in kilobytes x 1024 for the the following reason. What you are doing is assigning 1 byte of memory for every kilobyte of your ISPs caps for a buffer, you can't buffer anymore data than your ISP will give you so making this larger than 1 byte per kilobyte is pretty much a waste of resources. As for the other values you shouldn't use them, Dannjr and I have tested and tested them and after spending a while on the net it will slow your connection down and you will have to reboot to release the memory that has been utilized this happens especially fast if you are using a router so it's best to just leave out these values. They also kind of counter act the the DefaultReceive & SendWindow values. :) ;)

Revised

Post by wangnan »

1)
BufferMultiplier = 1024
and
DefaultReceiveWindow = your download cap in kilobytes x 1024
DefaultSendWindow = your upload cap in kilobytes x 1024

2)
ForwardBufferMemory = 8388608 (0x00800000)
and
MaxForwardBufferMemory = 8388608 (0x00800000)

3)
MaxNormLookupMemory is different from MaxForwardBufferMemory in that MaxNormLookupMemory improves nothing on speed. If your computer is not used as a server, you should set MaxNormLookupMemory back to its default vaule, which is 150000 bytes. Larger value of MaxNormLookupMemory costs more RAM (eg. 2500000 bytes, 5000000 bytes...).

once again... do u manually add those into the registry? and if u do where in the REGEDIT ? :)

Your welcome :D , Dannjr and I messed with these values for a while. Myself on my pc and he on his server for DSLNuts and his laptop and his home network and they proved to have negative effects, at first on a fresh boot downloads were faster and smoother but shortly thereafter there were major slow downs and other issues. :)

mnosteele52...Are you saying NOT to use the setting for MaxNormLookupMemory ???? Sorry if this is not clear ...

Correct ;) , do not use the following parameters:

ForwardBufferMemory
MaxForwardBufferMemory

:)
