Cable-Frequent Disconnects
I have recently been having problems with my internet connection. I have been experiencing frequent disconnections, and after choosing to repair the connection in windows XP, the connection only lasts a short time, ranging from 5 mins. to a half hour or so. It was originally hooked up to a router and shared between two computers which had been working great for a few weeks, but just a week ago this disconnection problem has occured. I have tried to simply connect the modem directly to one computer but it did not solve the problem. I also called Comcast support and they told me it must be something wrong on my end, maybe a configuration problem or something. If anyone has any suggestions or ideas to as what my problem might be, I'd appreciate it. My computer should be capable, it's a fairly new dell precision 330 w/ a pentium 4 processor and has been connected to the cable modem for months, but this has been my first experience of this problem.

I have more info, I'm almost positive that the problem is with the computer, not the cable modem or signal, b/c when the modem is hooked up to the other computer that previously shared it, it works beautifully, but on the problematic computer the signal is lost in a half hour or less. If anyone has any suggestions as to what specific configurations or problems could be causing this, it would be appreciated.
cable interruption
I've had this problem for a very long time with Comcast. I lost connections 15 to 30 times a day. I have had the lines check and 2 new cable modems. I was about ready to sue them for false advertising because I kept seeing these commercials saying that there connection was "always on." Then I discovered the problem with mine.
My cable wire came into my house and connected to a AB splitter. One end went to a tv and the other went to the modem. Turned out, after switching the wires and replacing the splitter etc., that both wires were good enough to maintain a tv connection but not a modem connection. I discovered this by connecting the incomming wire directly to the modem, which worked, then buying new wire to come from the splitter. Finally works great (4 weeks with no connection loss!)
All the fuss over 2 semi-bad wires which Comcast could not detect weren't good enough for the modem.
Oh yah, make sure your electrical outlets are properly grounded also...my problem used to be twice as bad until I fixed one bad plug some months ago.

Same problem as well
RR tested the line signal and found the trunk line was degraded.
(Recent utility line construction in the area). They put an amp on the line till they replaced the trunk line. All is now well.
