College Football (Predictions and Trash Talk)
Any College Football fans here besides myself and Ken?
This thread is for predictions, bragging and talking smack about your team.
Personally I'm a FSU Seminole Fan.
They had a rough season last year but are returning an awesome offensive line. They also had a great recruiting year bringing in a bunch of great offensive talent with the #1 overall recruit in the nation. He is a running back by trade but may be converted to a receiver (which happens allot at FSU).
They also have their now sophomore QB Chris Rix who grew up allot in the later part of last season. Look for him to possibly set some more records in the ACC. We are also getting back two top receivers that were out all last season due to knee injuries.
I think this is the year that the Seminoles take back the ACC. They might have a few scares but their real challenges (as always) are in non conference play. Games agains Notre Dame, Florida, Louiseville, and Miami.
Should be a hum dinger this year in the state of Florida.
If everything goes as planned the Miami game will have #1 influence as should the Florida game if they are still kickin' ass like they usually do.
So, what do you think about your teams? Who do you favor for the National Title?
7 Weeks. I CANNOT WAIT!
Oh yeah, I just scored 4 tickets to see FSU take on NC State in Raliegh.
That I think it is their last conference game and if you remember, FSU got beaten by them last year at home (1st ever home loss to an ACC opponent). FSU is looking to return the favor in NC this year. I'll be there!

Care to predict what will happen to the Gaytors when they take on Miami and FSU?Originally posted by the snake

GO GATORS !
Sat. Sep 7 Miami (in the Swamp)
This will be a great shootout for the Heisman. I see Miami teaching the new coach (Zook) a thing or two about what it takes to play a quality FL team. It's early in the season. Offense and Defense will both have to step up big for both teams. I see Miami's Defense stepping up and shutting down teh potent passing assault of Florida. Meanwhile, Miami's offense gets it done.
Can Grossman do it without Gaffney? I doubt it. Dorsey wins the game and then the Heisman.
Sat. Nov 30 @ Doak against FSU. (After a Bi week with time to prepare)
This is always a classic. FSU has the upper hand @ home but this will be the first year with Zook at the helm intead of the famous crybaby Steve Spurrier (who by the way is coaching a team that will wear Seminole look-a-like home uniforms next year).
Visors will not be flying but something on the Florida sideline will and it won't be gatorade! FSU is hungry for revenge. Chris Rix has the game of his life. Again I see The Gaytors getting the "L" but not by much.
PS. who do you have winning the SEC? Seriously the SEC is gonna rock this year and it will be another great battle to see who emerges as the top dog in this tough conference. I think the Gators win it if they can get past the Vols.
I'm biased in my opinions obviously. The Gators are going to have to step up and are the biggest question mark this year as far as I can tell. They returned allot of starters and should do well. The big games will tell. Special teams and the new coach will have to be on their toes!
Good luck to them against Miami (boy would I love them to win against the Hurricanes) I just hope they lose to my 'Noles ** Angels Singing**.

maryland has a chance to be at the top again, but remember that a crappy FSU beat them with authority last year.Originally posted by Joint Chiefs Of Staff
psst Gators!
Go Maryland!!!!!
It's going to be hard for them to win it this year. Didn't they also lose their starting QB?

GO WOLVERINES........but we need a better system (a playoff ?)...case in point the fact that Nebraska played for a National Championship and they didnt even win their division and Oregon who had only lost 1 game and won the PAC-10 was snubbed?

OMG, I can't believe this! There are actually college football fans here. I thought I'd be the only one here yakking about this stuff this fall. College football is, without a doubt, the greatest sport the planet has ever seen. Nothing even comes close. On those saturdays it kinda sucks living where I do because nobody around here seems to care. I've really tried to get people interested, but only a few have any interest in anything but the big 10 (ick).
The thing that makes me weird (to some ppl) is that my favorite teams are rivals. The Gators are my ultimate, but I also looooove the Canes and Noles (in that order). So unless they're playing each other, I like to see them dominate the rest of the whining lying jealousy-plagued football world.
With some sense of order, here are my favorites:
Florida, Miami, Purdue, Florida State, Washington, Clemson, Arizona State, Georgia, UCLA, Texas Tech
And here are some teams that I hate:
Nebraska, Alabama (probation hahaha), South Carolina, Auburn, Colorado (can't stand that Barnett bastard), Air Force, Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Mississippi State, (and new for this year, Indiana)
I'm psyched when there are big changes in an upcoming season. There's not much bigger than this year in Gainesville. How are my Gators gonna do without Spurrier? (btw, I'm suddenly a big redskins fan).     I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE that the best influence college football ever had has left the game. No one person ever did as much for the sport. He picked up where Miami started 20 years ago, and throughout the 90s gave the college football establishment a needed ass-kicking.
I know everybody's all down about Ron Zook and how the program's gonna decline, but I don't think that has to be true. I don't think Zook's a football genious like SS, but the thing that impresses me is that every decision he's made so far has been outstanding. Both the off & def coordinator hires were top notch. I expect big things from Zaunbrecher's offense. Thompson was impressive at Arkansas -- remember last year's Tennessee game -- best defense played against the vols all year (try to forget the Mississippi game though).
Glad to see you guys are around here!

Before ppl start attacking certain conferences -- ahem!! -- you should remember that you can't really evaluate a conference from intra-league play and hype. Bowls are when the best teams go outside their conferences and play the other guys.       So...... here are the bowl records from last year by conference:
Big East       4-1
ACC             4-2
SEC             5-3
PAC 10        2-3
Big 10         2-4
Big 12         3-5
Big East       4-1
ACC             4-2
SEC             5-3
PAC 10        2-3
Big 10         2-4
Big 12         3-5
Let see if they can repeat that without peppers and curry...im not hating on unc i like the tarheels when they beat fsu i laughed my a$$ off, but lets face it fsu is a much better team this year even though i hate to admit it. and just one question how can someone be a florida/miami/fsu fan isnt that heresy or something.

Really?   I did look. Their bowl schedule was against teams from the SEC, ACC, & Big 12. Not one team from the WAC, so why did you suggest that was the case? Big East teams defeated Nebraska, Kansas St., Georgia, and NC State and lost only to Florida State. Hmmmm. kind of a different picture than the WAC.Originally posted by tao_jones
look and see who the big east went 4-1 against.... if the big ten or sec played the wac ever year they would be 4-1 also
The overhyped Big 12, on the other hand, played in 8 bowl games and lost 5 of them. Of their 3 wins, one was against Conference USA.

Torsten, I have a new found respect for you.
You know your college football. Thanks for having FSU on your list even though they may be fourth.
Should be a great year!
I still think it's weird that you can have 3 of your top 4 from FL..
I'm of the faith that you cannot like more than one FL team. It's just not right!

LOL.   How that developed is a real long story. Had a lot to do with where I used to live and some obnoxious fans of other teams -- and my general feelings about the game itself. My earliest allegiances were to Miami. The first really big football game I ever went to was in the Orange Bowl. I was 6 but I still remember it well. I've got a mix of t-shirts, cups, sweatshirts, game tickets, etc. from all three teams. There's never been any hate for either of them, even after all those losses in Tallahassee. In fact I have a lot of respect for Bowden and hope he passes Paterno for all time this year. I know he delegates now, but he built FSU from nothing into best in the nation.Originally posted by FunK

Oh, I forgot the prediction question. At this point I'd have to say Texas for the national title. Yeah, I know all the Mack Brown stuff, but they seem to have better odds than anybody. That opinion is subject to change though. Final prediction comes in August. I predicted Miami last summer, so I wanna try to go 2-0. The SEC is hard to pick. My feeling is Florida, but it's not a strong one. I could see Georgia winning it too. Tennessee will probably be the favorite, but I think they'll slip.

Wow I actually felt sorry for TT. They really were pathetic. The BUCS running attack made them look like woman.
She's presenting like a mandrill!
Texas Tech does not have the talent defensively to compete with someone like Ohio State. Still, if not for the crazy field position of the intial series (90 to go for TT, 32 for OSU), a failed 4th & goal on the 2, and an interception in the end zone, this would've been an entirely different game. A lot of almosts.
I really thought TT woulda scored more. I wasn't sure about our DB's but all questions have been answered. If the second and third team D didn't come in in the middle of the third Qtr. TT would have most likely ended with 7. Oh well!Originally posted by torsten

Hey, Torsten - you weren't watching the same game I was!
The flags are out all over the place. It's amazing how many folks can jump on the OSU bandwagon.
Of course, Notre Dame does exceed them. The ND alumni association has 3 times as many members as the number of people that actually attended ND.
Go Rutgers! My son's a professor there.
