Cable Modem USB

Post by erie910 »

I have a Motorola Surfboard 4100 cable modem which has both ethernet and USB connections. When I install the USB drivers, I can get an IP address via the USB port, but my browsers (IE 6.0, Opera 6.1), e-mail client (Eudora 5.1), and AOL Instant Messenger cannot receive anything from my ISP. I use Windows 98 SE, and have kept it upgraded with all patches/upgrades that MS provides. Any ideas?

Thanks.

usb is great!

all you have to do, that if you have win98se, is go to start, run, open winipcfg, select your usb port, then release and renew :)

if you have win2k pro, you have to open up ms-dos
under c:, type ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew

hope it's not too late to save the trouble *crossing figners*

I would recommend getting an ethernet card and hooking it up that way. USB has in the past, been a overwhelming source of trouble.

yes, ethernet does definitely have the best performance so if you're into speed then get ethernet
