SMC wireless PC card and Win 95

Post by Susky »

I just picked up the SMC 2632W (v2) wireless PCMCIA card, and I'm ready to throw it against the wall. Before I do that, I thought I'd post the problem here! :)

I have two different laptops...a Compaq LTE 5200 and a Compaq LTE 5300. They're old, but they work okay for web surfing. They both have Win 95 installed.

When I plug in the PCMCIA card, the computer recognizes it, and guides me through the driver installation. But once it's done, the device manager shows that the device -- even though it's correctly labeled -- is not working.

Is my issue most likely with Win95, or is it more probable that the card is damaged?

(I e-mailed the SMC support people, but based on what I hear from other users, I'm not holding my breath waiting for their reply.)

Well...

...I managed to temporarily procure my wife's "work" laptop -- a fairly recent IBM with Win98 installed. And the SMC card worked great.

Guess I have to re-do the OS on my two old Comaqs. Perhaps this is my clue to drop Linux on at least one of 'em. ;)
