New Problem

Post by Vic Mackey »

sigh remind me why i bother with computers??? alright my internet favorites work for me but when i log on my dads account and try to use his favorites it doesnt work. i click on the site but nothing happens. also when i try to manually type in websites it doesnt work on his account but does on mine. i deleted all his favorites and recopied them from the floppy disk i have and it still wont work. i swear computers are gonna give me a hernia(sp?).

EDIT: oh and i forgot to say that i had just removed spyware crap and it was located in my dads documents and settings folder. some of the spyware stuff was things you had in your HELP THREAD & TIPS under getting rid of spyware.

You have to check in Software or Networking Forum for that stuff :) :) If your on a router from your Dads puter he probably needs SG Optimizer too plus go to router makers website and make sure you have newest firmware installed, you and he do not have to have Same Tcp Recieve Window, I can hear him now, son if you even look at my puter, your dead, quality time :) :) :) :)

Plus are you or he using any USB devices:

Want to know where your bandwidth is: Right click on My Computer, select properties, then select, Universal Serial Bus Controllers, then
USB Universal Host Controller, then advanced tab at top.
How to stop, unplug USB devices, don't use USB keyboard, camera's, scanner's, whatever thats USB needs your bandwidth.

Ad aware is not the problem, I know for sure but if you insist, yea 2 and a half hours is pretty good, now since it's XP, backing up registry is like _________________in the wind, turn system restore on for one night, then turn it back off in the morning, you now have a restore point, you have to turn system restore back on to restore to that point if you need too, takes about 4 minutes and is better than reformatting, if you add new programs you need to restore again so entries are in your registry, Go to Start button, programs, accessories, system tools, Disk cleanup, select drive to clean and click OK, when box comes up click on tab at top that says More Options, click on tab at bottom of box in System Restore called clean up, that saves only your last restore point, good ruck :) :) :) :)

well if its not adaware i dont know what it could be. cause it only started happening after adaware found spyware in their documents and settings folder. after they were removed thats when i could run any of their favorites. /shrug

Be carefull or do as Bill Gates wanted you to from the start Upgrade to Pro, samething happened to me, but you can borrow copy of Pro, no problem installing upgrade or fresh :)

I'll try and make this short, if you have XP Home Edition you can put Optimizer on, but before you do any other tweaking, run system restore for one night, then turn off, if you need to replace OS you must turn system restore back on. What happens is when you tweak XP Home Edition and then run sfc /scannow to fix IE or restore critical files, it thinks it's XP Professional Edition and asks for that disk, I think Microshaft knew this, so you need to borrow copy from some one as I don't as of yet know how to fix IE or restore critical files if you have tweaked XP Home Edition further than Optimizer. Tweaking Home Edition of XP fools computer into
thinking it's Professional Edition. Sorry

oh hey lobo i was wondering on the optimizer under the "Other Settings" tab, mine is set as max connections per server: 20, max connections per 1.0 server: 40, and Lan browsing speedup is optimized. are those the correct settings? hehe thats very interesting about the sfc /scannow. wonder what other surprises microsoft put in :) :D

The point being, I believe USB uses 10% min for each puter, so you are getting 80% of bandwidth if your Dad or you have no other USB devices, bandwidth=speed :) :)

I don't see him saying he has a USB cable modem or USB network connection?

You aren't honestly trying to say that USB has anything to do with network bandwidth and browsing the 'net on PCs that do not have USB modems or USB network connections?.

Mine just said bandwidth not (USB) between that and CONcast,
Well anyway was trying to figure out, from above:

I need to know how much your puter uses and how much his uses:

Want to know where your bandwidth is: Right click on My Computer, select properties, then select, Universal Serial Bus Controllers, then
USB Universal Host Controller, then advanced tab at top.
How to stop, unplug USB devices, don't use USB keyboard, camera's, scanner's, whatever thats USB needs your bandwidth :) :)
