Aliens vs. Predator 1 and 2.

#2 actually has smart music...as you begin to get closer to danger...the music builds to a fever pitch!

Plus, the aliens are just so sneaky and the AI is awesome. Trust me, when you are walking around and the music turns grim...you get paranoid so you start looking everywhere...and there might be one or two stuck to the ceiling that you missed with your light which by the way, is one of the only sources of light you have! Hearing the face huggers scurry across an open floor is quite unnerving. But those damn aliens always catch me with my guard down....like they will just sit there motionless, blend in with the background and you walk up to it only to have him thrust his jaws into your face. LOL...it's a cool game dude.

Undying wins for not only being scary in a classic sense, but having a wonderful novel class plot, beatiful graphics, and the most interesting dual wielding weapon/magic system I have ever seen in a first person shooter. The bosses actually talk to you, they have meaning, they have personality. And the journal entries you collect throughout the game are like reading a good book. It was just this wonderful spooky adventure.

Next on that list would have to be System Shock 2 (missed out on 1). There is nothing spookier than a cyborg woman talking to you like a woman would a baby in that distorted alien/cyborg voice. *shiver* Plus the whole character customization RPG style of the game was excellent.

Finally I would have to say AVP2's marine portion of the game. UOD already summed it up quite nicely.

Another game that is sometimes scary is Gothic, if you haven't played it yet, then buy it and do so.

Silent Hill is the scariest console game ever, with resident evil not too far behind it.

I actually missed out on Silent Hill, but I may go back to it before I play the 2nd one.

But I never really experienced any scary moments in RE. Maybe it was the cheesy voice acting that took me out of it, but it was nothing more than shooting crows and seeing an occasional licker drop down on you. :p

AvP2 is scary. I always thought the Resident Evil games (at least RE2) were weak...

Man-
Silent hill scared the **** out of me. One night I was home alone with all the lights turned out, silent hill on in surround sound and the smell of some fine northern california GB in the air. I was so freaked out, my room-mate finally came home and broke me out of the trance i was in while playing.
took me a good half-hour to shake it off.

We have seen their kind before. They're the heirs of all the murderous ideologies of the 20th century. By sacrificing human life to serve their radical visions, by abandoning every value except the will to power, they follow in the path of fascism, Nazism and totalitarianism. And they will follow that path all the way to where it ends in history's unmarked grave of discarded lies.

Macho's got it right-Undying.

It was like playing an interactive horror movie at times. First time a game ever made me jump in my seat.

The X-Files (7 CD Box Set). This game in imo was fantastic. Made entirely from real videos. The only animation or graphics during the game were on your status / obljective bar on the bottom of the screen. This game by fox interactive caught the true sense and feel of the X-Files series. The background music that played during the game gave me the creeps. Some parts of the game made me look over my shoulder and wonder if the badies were really behind me.

For me, the most intense, scariest part of a game, was the level in Half Life with the Tentacled Beast. The lead into that part was great, where you could hear it as you neared the area, not knowing what to expect...then just trying to make it past that level. Got my heart racing, hands sweaty.
