I have the SB-4100 also (same URL works for it).

I would think this program will likely appear on all SURFboards (at least in the US); I first heard of it with the SB-3100.

Why would anybody want to know the frequencies of their modem? Or any of the other things on that page? I have SB4100, is there a way to tweak it that way also?

In short, no. This page is good only as far as looking at your signal strength, signal to noise ration, etc...it's a good troubleshooting tool, but really has no means of changing anything within your modem...

Is that so? On my Linksys modem, that page also shows my max bitrate up and down. They seem to coincide with my speed tests and confirmed my suspicion that attbi put in a much more restrictive cap (1.5mb) than my athome service (hit 4.5 mb regularly).

On the older version of the surfboard software, you could see the max bitrate up and down, but they have removed that from the latest software upgrade, so really all you see now is the signal strength, signal to noise ratio, & address information (what mac address your modem has learned, nic address, & so on)..

Thanks Indy,
I've had cable for about a year and had never heard about this modem test page. Now it seems to be all over the place. Has it been a deep dark secret until just recently?

Nah, not really...it might not have been very well known, but I know I've known about it for roughly two years now...the RCA modem has a similar page, as well as the 3Com sharkfin...I'm pretty sure that several others have them as well, but in the market that I work in, we maily carry the surfboards and the RCAs...

Actually, the higher the number, the better...you don't want to see that number fall below 30 dB...

Surfboard page

Post by Cable_Dood »

Some Surfboards use http://192.168.100.11 instead of http://192.168.100.1

Keep in mind that if you are specifying a proxy in IE, you won't be able to access this page unless you disable it.

37 is a phenomenal DS SNR. Most Surfboards report 39-40 when attached directly to the front of the uBR. Anything below 30 is getting pretty noisy. Anything below 20 and you're going to start missing packets on the DS QAM.
