Modify MAC address
I just got my cable internet connection. It's configured on my desktop PC.
Now I want to use my connection on an other PC.
My providers helpdesk told me that the Motorola modem uses the MAC address of my network interface.
I should set the MAC address of the other PC equal to the MAC address of the PC the connection was configured on. Otherwise i will never get the connection on the other pc to work.
So my question is: how can I modify the MAC address on my the other PC.
It's got a 3Com Fast Ethernet XL 10/100 MB TX interface card and uses a 3C90X driver.

hold you MAC address for about 5 hours
The cable modem will hold you MAC address for about 5 hours then it will suddenly begin to work after about 5 hours.

The use of MAC addresses varies from system to system. You may be able to get the second computer to connect by resetting the modem. If that does not work, then you may, if the modem is an SB2100, 3100, 4100, 4101, or 4200, to go to ithe internal web page and rest the modem to factory defaults and get it to work.
If none of the above work, then your best bet is to buy a cheap router. Most have the ability to clone the MAC address of the card in your first PC.

A buddy of mine was able to clone the MAC Address
I think he had a SOHOware N8GB somthing, Broad Guard Router
Kip, I did successfully do this on my laptop at home(compaq netilligent nic I believe) after Comcast took over from @home. It worked without a problem. If the option for changing it in the properties of the nic aren't there I don't believe there is any other way.Originally posted by Kip Patterson
Have you done this successfully? I had a friend try it once, and it didn't work. That was long enough agao that I don't remember the brand. It wasn't 3Com, for sure.
I'd like to know a brand for future reference if you've got one. That would be a nice fix.

I found this link today. It explains how to do it. I don't have Windows 2000 though....

I think I'll go for the proxy server solution and leave the MAC address unchanged.
