Can't go to Microsoft sites.

Post by Ratman_84 »

Well here's an odd one. I've had this problem for a while and now it's getting to me. I can't go to any Microsoft sites. By that I mean anything that begins with the word Microsoft. Such as http://www.microsoft.com or http://www.microsoft.com/directx/ and it's really getting annoying. I can go to windowsupdate.microsoft.com without a problem. Just seems not want to go anywhere with Microsoft at the beginning. Any suggestions?

Oh, here's another one for ya. I got a virus. It won't let me delete and I can't even right click on it. I don't know what virus it is because Norton doesn't recognize it as a virus, so I can't go to Norton's site and get a specific tool to take it off. It doesn't really seem to be doing anything. Maybe just a virus that crashes Windows when you click on it. It's still annoying though.

P.S. What is the latest version of DirectX?

Do you have that latest Norton Antivirus, which is 2002, or at least one relatively new, like 2001. If Norton doesn't recognize it,
does it have the latest .DAT files? (Liveupdate).

Latest DX is 8.1, you can see that on Windows update site.

Which browser are you using? If you're using Opera, even setting it to act as IE5, you might have problems getting into microsoft website. Just a thought :)

Try getting there by IP, try any one of these. Open your browser and replace http://www.micorsoft.com with any of the IP's below. Maybe and I mean a thin maybe your ISP is having DNS issues with microsoft.

As for the virus, have you tried any of the
on- line virus checkers, such as

Hmmm.

I am using regular IE. No Opera or anything. I have Norton Antivirus 2001 completely updated. I have gone to the Norton site and done that online scan thing. Didn't find any viruses.......of course it didn't find that one that I mentioned, so that isn't good. But it isn't that virus that won't let me go to Microsoft sites. I just got that virus and I haven't been able to go to Microsoft sites since.............well, maybe never. Can't remember.

I'll have to try those IP's when I get home. Thanks.

Hey thanks Murman. That http://www.microsoft.akadns.net link worked. Now what does that mean? Does my ISP suck?
