Start - run - type sysedit - close boxes until you are at the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM.INI box - scroll down to the section [386enh] and under the last entry type IrqXXbuffer=7168 (XX=Irq assigned to your NIC) - then select file - save - then exit the sysedit utility and reboot to take effect. ;) :D

This gives a RAM buffer to your NIC, it assigns 7MB of RAM as a buffer. It helps with data transfer, in my case and most others I have spoken with, much faster loading of web pages. It definitely works for me and others have said the same, others say no difference, try for yourself and see, if it doesn't work just remove the line and reboot again and it's gone. :D :)

I actually tweaked the NIC and I can see a slight boost in page loading...Awesome! ;)

What if the IRQ is well populated

Post by Kirby Smith »

tHE_One: are you comfortable that adding this setting on a Win2k machine where there are multiple resources on the same IRQ will not cause some other functionality that has its own (larger) RAM allocation to end up with less?

TIA

kirby

Win2k SP2
My IRQ 11 includes:
Microsoft ACPI-compliant system
All-in-Wonder Radeon AGP
2 x VIA USB controllers
D-link NIC
SB Live Value
HPT 370 RAID controller
