Should I ask Comcast for a new Modem?
Should I ask Comcast for a new Modem?
Hey guys, I live near Detroit & Ive have Comcast@Home since it was offered in my area. I still have the original modem from them also...Its a white Moterola modem where the front of it is formed like a wave. Its kinda big compared to the new modems also...I was wondering, will I see a speed increase with a new modem?

That's a Motorola Cybersurfr. One of the original proprietary modems, it works as well as a DOCSIS modem, although its upload speed is limited to 768kbits. That way above your cap, however.
They're still installing them in Columbus. I have a later model, and it works as well as if not better than the DOCSIS modems. I wouldn't change it.
On the other hand, some ISP's are dropping the Motorolas since they use a different CMTS and take up an additional cable channel.

CMTS
Kip-Could this be the reason some of us are having problems with our old CyberSurfers and New SurfBoard Modems on the new Comcast Network?
