Is anyone else tired of dealing with Cox in the RI area? My speeds are about 1/2 of what I was getting with @home and whenever I try to download from newsgroups, my connection times out. Am I the only one with problems?
P.S. I called Cox yesterday and was told they are only giving credit if connections are completly lost. Nothing for slow speeds or dropped news server connections.

Sorry to hear about your ploblem. I work for Cox in NC and not to sound like i am defending my company but they are going through a change over so there might be a few small issues.(aren't there always with these things) give them a little time. However, i do agree with you that there should be some compensation for your lag and the newsgroup problem. In the service industry the customer is always right.(well not always, but you let them think they are) Good luck man.

Cox in Phoenix gave me credit because I was tired of the canned replies! I wrote a firm, no name calling letter which clearly outlined why I was upset. That their ads on TV are misleading at this time. Why keep adding customers to a system that cannot support the current load? That I am paying full price for a service that does not give me what I am paying that FULL price for.
That one more canned reply from them and a dish would go up. That I would file a complaint with our Attorney General for misleading advertising and file a small claims action to recover money I felt was due.
While I may lose, that I was very sure I would get some news time and other upset Cox customers would step forward.
I am semi-retired and have lots of time. That I am at the local Justice Court many times a month anyway and filing one more set of papers would be no big deal.
It never hurts to stand up for your rights and demand what you feel is your due.
Things are getting much better here.( to their credit) I do think on the west coast they overload their servers. I think they do not have all their servers up yet.

I'm have Cox here in Providence and everything seems to be ok. Just did a speed test and it's at 3061 down and 290 up. Where are you in RI?

EARTHMOFO
Here is what I got at 3pm.
** Speed 1151(down)/292(up) kbps **
(At least 23 times faster than a 56k modem)
Finish.
I am in Warwick. These speeds are pretty consistant for me. When I was using @home I usually got in the area of 2000 down.
On top of it all, My newsgroup connection keeps timing out. I have to sit in front of the computer while downloading from newsgroups and tell agent to continue every time it times out
