Norton Antivirus 2002 on XP slow down

Post by softworks »

Whenever I have Norton Antivirus 2002 enabled on XP Professional, it slows down my application loading. When I disable it, the computer is at top speed. Is there a way that I can make it run fast, with it enabled? Maybe some new configuration? or is there maybe a way to enable Antivirus when I am connected to the internet and disable it when I dissconnect?
What I am using:
-Verizon DSL w/ native XP PPPoE
-Windows XP Professional
-1 GHz Pentium III
-256 MB RAM
-IBM NetVista

I've seen a nice improvement in 2002 as far as not "bogging down the system with real time protection turned on" like version 4, 5, and 2000 had. 2001 got decent, 2002 is quite lean in my opinion. I use Nortons CE 7.6 which is REALLY lean.

Do you have all your XP updates? And Norton live updates which often update some of their program files.
