Comcast Registry Tweaks

Post by waynenf »

I tried using the TCPOptimizer on this site (using the optimum settings) but it seems to have slowed down my Comcast High Speed Internet connection to the speed of about a 56K modem... *sigh*

Anyone else on the new Comcast (not @Home) network used the TCPOptimizer with good results?

If not, what registry settings are you using for MTU, RWIN, TTL, etc.? I gotta figure out a way to speed up my download times... the max I got for download was about 220... upload is fine for me.

Thanks,

Wayne

Get used to your new speed, it's not the Optimizer, @home's download CAP was 3.0, CONcast Low Speed Network is 1.5 down :)

Or you can click on File on Optimizer and select restore Windows default settings, apply changes and REBOOT :)

Lobo:

I'm not worried about the cap... I'm worried about the crappy download speed... performing a speed test from dslreports.com states that I'm running at maybe 4 times the speed of a 56K connection (220 kbps). I'd be happy to even be near the cap speed of 1.5 M. *sigh* I was hoping maybe a registry tweak was the answer...

Actually, I'm familiar with how to do speed tests (I'm a networking professional) and performed everything correctly. I just have sucky bandwidth I guess... 220 down is not very good...

No I would try and repair or redownload IE first, one or the other:

To repair IE
Go to contol panel,add/remove programs
Select IE and internet tools from box
Click remove
A box will come up asking if you want to repair or remove IE
Click on repair

Or you may have to redownload IE:

To redownload IE
Go to http://www.microsoft.com
Under downloads click on download center
Select which which version you want and select your OS
Click on run from this location when download box comes up
good luck :)

It's not Optimizer fault for low speed :)

Ok... pardon me for being blunt, but repairing IE has NOTHING to do with my download times. IE is working fine... besides, IE has nothing to do with fragmented pings, traceroutes where hops just die, and page requests that just time out.

Did you go to the Comcast HSI School of Technical Support?

Maybe if I cleaned my cache, stood on my head, and sang "Like a Virgin", ya think my speed would increase?

*sarcasm intended*

Sorry, Lobo... didn't mean to offend you with my post (if I did)... I'm just very frustrated and agitated with Comcast right now...

My apologies...

Do you have Cablenut installed by any chance? :)

Cablenut? *shudder* I've heard dreadful things about that program... wouldn't trust it if you paid me.

I'm a computer professional, and would be very interested in hearing your theory as to why an IE repair might improve my speeds... can you email me privately with an explanation? I'd really like to understand it... My email is in my profile.

Thanks,

If you don't use it it won't, but it's been proven IE is faster than Netscape :)
