DNS Cache???

Post by Mwing »

I read a website states that by adding DNS cache, then IE performance will increase. That website provides me a reg file for d/l, the content of that file is as follows:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Dnscache\Parameters]
"CacheHashTableBucketSize"=dword:00000001
"CacheHashTableSize"=dword:00000180
"MaxCacheEntryTtlLimit"=dword:0000fa00
"MaxSOACacheEntryTtlLimit"=dword:0000012d

1. Do you guys know what that changes??

2. I've applied this reg file, then the speed is really fast, why does that happen??

3. However, if I open many IE windows (different address, each with many pictures on it), the picture loads fast, but somehow each page may have one or couple of pictures just half shown then stuck, if I hit refresh, then all the picture shows fine and fast, how can I avoid this? I really like the speed after the patch, but it is annoying to hit refresh to load all the pictures, although it doesn't always happen...

I am a newbie to broadband connection tweak and stuff like that... any help will be appreciated!!!

Thanks!!!

When you connect to a web site your computer sends information back and forth, this is obvious. Some of this information deals with resolving the site name to an IP address, the stuff that tcp/ip really deals with, not words. This is DNS information and is used so that you will not need to ask for the site location each and every time you visit the site. Although WinXP and win2000 has a pretty efficient DNS cache, you can increase its overall performance by increasing its size.
