woohoo!! Got a new mac!

Post by Mehmet »

My dad did actually. Anyways, his old g3 was driving him crazy, so he said, come on, lets go to compUSA and get a new mac ( I dont regret getting it though, he REALLY needed it ).

here are the specs.

• 733MHz PowerPC G4
• 384 SDRAM
• 40GB Ultra ATA drive
• CD-RW drive ( not sure on the speed yet.)
• NVIDIA GeForce2 MX - 32MB SDRAM
• 56K internal modem
• Mac OS 9.2 & X
• Gigabit Ethernet
• Two USB ports
• Two FireWire ports

total = 1800 w/ tax.

This thing rocks, so does Os X, you guys have no idea how much microsoft is ripping us off by selling us winxp, os X is just so much better.

truth be told...

PC's are for those peeps who like to tweak their comps...Macs are for peeps who want to get stuff done....just look at Maya and Adobe After Effects for gawds sake!!!

Macs have a niche market in Education and Entertainment industries.

But people still want to screw with the inside of the box....thats why we still and always will have PC's. :D

yup...a 733mhz Power PC is equivalent to a much higher clocked Intel or AMD CPU...don't let pure MHZ stand in the way. :D

More MHZ usually means better gaming.

This is the argument Jon that seems to never die...for us PC users it does...for Mac owners it does also...but....and I mean BUT...comparing PC performance in gaming to Mac gaming performance can't be done....they are too different.

I guess the only way for us to know would be to benchmark that MAC of Vegeto's with a pure FPS shootout....

I don't even know if we can compare his GeForce Card to a standard GeForce card for the PC ya know????

Vegeto....do you have any games we could test?

Just for the record I was only horsing around in my post above.

I have no ill feelings towards the Mac (it's a great machine) and I don't think you're a loser vegeto.

The Mac accesses and uses it's ram more efficiently than a PC does.
I can't wait to see some benchmarks. I hope I don't miss it when you post again.

RISC processors are efficient, my old 66 mhz PowerPC would lay some hurtin on a 120 mhz Intel, I know that for a fact. Code optimized for the RISC will scream too. I had a game for the mac called Absolute Zero, one of the first code optimized proggies for the PPC, and my 450 mhz P2 was not a whole heckuva lot better. Macs do have the clean/efficient design down pat.

Jobs had the idea way back to scrap the old mac OS and move on to something new. MS still has DOS bs rattling around in its windows. Intel still has some dinosaurs lurking in its Pentium chip design.

Entertainment? you bet... tough to beat for rendering, etc. Look at an app like 3D Studio Viz- will run great on just about any MAC, yet struggles on even a P4, with 512 ram.

Becoming more of a niche machine every day though- losing market share, with fewer apps all the time written for the platform. Too pricey for the mainstream, and I hate 'em on a network... Apple Squawk.... subnet 'em; and/or put em on a VLAN to keep em quiet.

Well, MAC OS X is "supposed" to change all that...look at all the Linux coders out there....that is what they are hoping for. You can run Linux apps on OS X right now....just have to recompile the kernel from time to time.

I like the look of the new IMAC but they need to make a Black version...white looks to wimpy....IMHO.

What are you talking about? Both of those apps started on the PC. They only ported them because the Mac people griped so much...
