Networking Question

Hey, we now have 2 computers hooked up next to each other, and I was wondering on the cheapest way ( i know i have posted this before) to use the same cable connection (1 ip) my friends suggested a switch, others a router, if you know of anything (prices and models/makes) please post

Cheapest way is to run ICS. Best way is to run a router. Routers are not expensive either and won't bog things down like ICS.

I second what BlueJetta sais. Router is the way to go. You can find deals on Linksys, D-Link, etc for under $70 on sale.

With ICS you would have to have 2 nics in your main pc and it would always have to be on for your secondary pc to access the net.

These guys hit it on the nose. Ihave a linksys router and love it. no noticeable loss in speed either. anyone need a cheap hub!

Make sure you don't confuse a HUB for a ROUTER! With a HUB you will need additional IPs from the provider. A ROUTER will not need additional IPs. It will assign IPs to the computers, up to 253 of the if you have enough HUBS.

Check out those name brands. Make sure they have enough ports on them to support more than one computer. LINKSYS makes a cheap model that only has one port, make sure you get the 4-port model so you won't have to buy an additional HUB.
