Athlon XP too hot?

Post by wip3out »

I have an Athlon XP 1600 and when running at 133 FSB and 1.75 Vcore my CPU temperature is 50.C is this too hot or the right temp. My HSF is a Thermal Take SuperOrb I had an Akasa SilverMountain HSF but it was really ****ing my system up making it crash etc.. so I got rid of it (think it was too heavy). The rest of my specs are in Sig. Please help me I'm burning up :o

gets alll freaky with XP and 2k, seems to only like 98SE as an OS. I'd stay away from it.

Not a bit from what I can tell. I really dont want to have to run the cooler app, I do have a copper based HSF but it really isn't helping much. The next computer show I go to I'm gonna get a new one, something pure copper and a nice big o'l fan on top. {Plus the air flow in my case it's the greatest so I'm going to get a new case fro this machine and upgrade my AT server case to ATX, has more room for all the SCSI drives.

case air circulaton is what causes alot of people to have higher temperatures. It's all about the backfeed of hot air and how to prevent it.

have videocard that's giving off alot of heat because it's oced? Get a pci slot fan to help remove that hot air.
Have a fan port at the back of the mid atx case that haven't been used yet? Get a fan and plug it in!

Got a CheifTec Midi Tower (Black) with 340watt PSU and Three 80mm Case Fans(2 at back one at front), and a Super Slot Cooler. I Leave the Side off the case when I'm Major overclocking(Trying to bump up my 3D Marks :P).

I'll try the FOP 32 and see if it helps. The thing that makes me mad is having to use a 7000rpm fan to get temp below a reasonable level, it's not good when ur trying to hear footsteps in CS  . Think I better find some good headphones that don't make my ears as warm as my CPU. :D

Never had any problems with it on my XP machine at all, in fact that all I've run it on since I've gotten it.

Solved my problem. On the Asus A7V266-E motherboard there is a jumper called THEMCPU which controls the thermal sensor and can be set to reserved or Athlon/Duron for some reason it defaults to reserved and I hadn't read through my manual closely enought to notice the jumper. I now have a GlobalWin FOP heatsink with a 7000rpm 60mm fan. My idle temp is 43.C which is still hot but better then 50.C
