What was/is your favorite car you have owned?

Post by Rings890 »

I built this "thing" when I was in highschool. It was a 1977 Trans AM. When I was done with her it ran the 1/4 mile in the low 13's and went from 0-60 in just under 5 seconds :D

So lets see some pics you guys.

Nice! . . . Very nice ghost  I like the tranni!
My T/A was a 4spd B/W with 3:73 RAT rearend. Very quick off the line but I topped out at about 110mph (about 2/3 dawn the tack)then I had to watch the guy I was racing against creeping up to me in my side mirror.
Have you time tested that Caprice at the tack yet? Not time listed on your specs.

Ya, I had to sell it a couple of years after I graduated Highschool
but I will eventualy get anuther to play with. I like the IROC you have there CoolJ, sounds like she runs nice and smooth. Ever though of some Super Flow mufflers on that animal? They sound great and there is still enough back pressure so it runs right.

My favorite that i've owned was a 66 Ford Econoline P/U
same color as this one, not quite as cherry as this one but I had transplanted a 289 into it and had center lines on it.
If I can afford to I WILL have another one.
God I loved that truck but she burned up in an engine fire and gutted the cab.

That's a sweet looking Econoline MG..my friends dad has a 69 Econoline van....he restored it a while ago, but it needs restoring again....has a built 350 with Edelbrock parts, nice Cragar wheels, BFG Tires, custom interior, everything is covered in shag carpeting.

Here's a sweet car, that it's not mine, but I'll own one eventually.

here's the guys website, it's an impressive vehicle, to say the least.

Never had it at the track. G-Tech put it in the low 15's in the quarter @ 9x.xx mph. Not fast, but for a car that weighs 4400 lbs., or roughly ½ ton more than a Mustang, with LESS engine, it does okay in my book. It's at it's best light-to-light, where I've actually beaten a 5.0 Mustang one early morning downtown....In a full quarter he'd have probably beaten me, but to hand him his ass for our limited run was fun to do.

Of course the rear end kicking around on the 1-2 shift is fun too. :D

What were the gear ratios in that 4 speed? Or rather, what was the 4th gear ratio in the trans?

CoolJ, you got that motor looking SWEET! Nice and clean looking TBI you got there bro! You make us Chevy owners proud! :D Very nice ride!

Ever think of slapping a Weber 36/38 DGEV on there? The 22R is a great motor, bulletproof, like brembo said, and responds WELL to Weber carbs, heh. I had a 45 DCOE on my MGB. :D

Mine was a 1948 Standard 8, 2 door Tourer, black, with a sliding roof, batwing doors and drawstring operated roller blinds that closed off the back seat windows.
Powered by an absolutely awesome 8 hp sidevalve motor, 4 speed manual transmission. Brakes and clutch were operated by a series of metal rods.
Top speed... a mindblowing 55 mph downhill with a tailwind.
Purchase price..... $30-00 in 1966.

Alas it is now probably someone's 2002 Camaro bumper.

Great car and a privelege to have owned it.

Hi Rings890

Nice to meet you

I suppose for overall usefullness and fun, i bought a new 1975 BMW 2002 tii.

It was a very compact little sedan that should still be on the road today imho.

It used space very efficiently, had a wonderful allround field of view, good trunk space and a nifty body style.

Nice Becker Mexico Stereo i think, Sunroof & 4 speed.

It was the fuel injected model. 130 or 140 hp. can't really remember, but it was seriously quick back then.

I handled great, you could really toss it around & had wonderful gas milage as well.

Quite expensive in comparison to domestics back then.

All around wonderful sports sedan, that you could bomb on the weekends and yet cart the family about as well.

I've had many hot cars over the years, 383 Road Runner blueprinted.,460cu. worked on,T Bird, little Triumph TR3, loved it as well, but not practical & a host of souped Chevies etc. But of all, the BMW would be the best compromise vehicle of the batch.

Great Car that is still being restored and resold to people who have learned of it's reliability and sensible design.

I did a quick search and found this photo of the car, if unfamiliar with it.

thanks for the memories

I can't remember what the gear ratios were for the trani, I went looking throght one of my old manuals that I had all my notes in from when I put the car together and I did'nt have anything written in for the trani. I had left it stock so whatever it had from the factory I gess. I remember the shift from 1st to 2nd was allmost no change in RPM's but from 2nd to 3rd droped it allmost 1000 Rpm if I remember right.

Minir-

Those Tii's are worth a pretty penny these days. I love thier lines,

and the Germans can do awesome things with cars. I recently

went on a joy ride in a regular 2002, guy owns a BMW shop, and

it wasn't, well, regular. It had some punch, and boy did he ever

have the suspension dialed in. Made my hair stand up. Too bad

ya don't still have yer Tii.

Very fond of my '93 Pathfinder. Excellent vehicle, plenty of room for 3 people, 6 dogs, camping gear and alcohol.

Favorite vehicle? Probably the '88 Prelude I had a few years after high school. Handled like a dream.

Hi brembo

Yes i wish i'd have kept a few of the cars i owned, bikes to.

I used to deal every 6 months for awhile, then every year, then every 2 as costs climbed.

I remember the Manager of a Hotel i stayed at in Vancouver had an MG and we were each going to a Resteraunt outside the City & He laughed and said i'll wait for you there.

I blew him into the weeds. You should have seen his face.

He never thought the little sedan could handle. :D

It was a truly great car, the newer ones are softer and more plush but not in anyway as much fun.& certainly not as frugal on gas.

Now i drive trucks as i no longer need a car. Cheaper and better suited to country life.

I do however get the bug for a New Bike or Sports car now and again, but insurance etc is a killer now, so i just dream like i did as a kid. Hahaha

Yes even the 2002 was a great car. My buddy had one which is what prompted me to buy the tii.

I went to the dealer looking for a 2002 and tested the tii as well, well it was a simple choice then

Take care

regards

'89 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera Sedan. Got her two yrs ago as a 16 yr old and she's still running good. Has a 2.8 liter fuel injector, the radio is the only thing that works, because the casette player is dead than a doornail. Puts out good heat and has a good and cold air conditioner. It's a 6 cyclinder if you're wondering, but if I fill the tank up to full, it doesn't waste that much gas. All she needs is a cv boost[which includes a new driving axisle], top glasses, a new radio of course, new tires, the doors fix from the inside, an oil change. The car is nice and big inside, it can hold 6 people. The car is very fast and has over 40,000 miles on it already, sorry I don't have a digital cam if you want to see the car, but I will get a digital camera one day and take a picture of it and post it. The color is maroon and I love the car, it takes me whenever I want to go!

1985 mustang svo body <i blew the engine up about 2 years ago>. i bought a state patrol car at a police auction so i put the 5.8L police interceptor in it. i hate fuel injection though so i swapped the intake and wiring harness and put a holley 850 double pumper on it. i stroked the engine to 391ci, 125hp nitrous kit, msd ignition, 411 gears, 94 cobra trans & rear end.
VERY FAST
i'm getting a digital camera soon - i'll post pics.
Thanks -

21 years ago I co-owned a 1968 Firebird with a friend, Was a great car and had some great times in it. 327 with 12:1 comp. ratio, 411 rear end and 4 on the floor, Black with chrome mags,, boy it was a hot looking car, 0 to 100 miles an hour was fast. You could squeal the tires thru the first 3 gears.

Sold out my half to my friend, probably 3 months later he rolled it and that was the end of the car... He was banged up but mainly his pride was hurt...... I sure do miss that car. :(

Hmm, I like my jeep.

But we also have a 1981 Monte Carlo with a Golden Rocket 350 engine. I don't know any other specs than that. It goes pretty fast. Engine purrs...well..maybe growls...it's nice for a sunday drive.
