I have windows XP Professional Verson 2600. My computer is a PIII 1GHz, with 384 megs of RAM. I am using 56K dial-up access to access the internet. After connecting to the internet with Windows XP, I am unable to navigate on the internet for between 12 to 15 minutes. My modem lights in the system tray will light up for a few seconds after first connecting and then stop lighting. I have a dual boot on this computer with Win98, WinNT4, WinME, WinXP. Windows XP is the only operating system on my computer with this problem. I have tried everthing that I know to try to resolve this problem. It seems like some type of service is running in Windows XP that is causing this problem. Does anyone have any idea what may be causing a navigation problem in Windows XP?
Try the Standard 56000 drivers, also check the modem site for any updates. XP might have come with drivers, but it doesn't mean that they are the best.
I fixed it. Someone on Peppys Windows XP Forum said to remove "file and printer sharing" if there is a internet dropout problem with XP. It works great now.
