Need Road Runner Upload Tweak

Post by Downset »

Hey All,

I am looking for a Cable Modem tweak that boosts up uploads i
am using Road Runner (http://www.rr.com) as an ISP.
I usually get around 45 Kilobytes Per Second, but i wanna attempt
to speed it up to about 60 or 70 Kilobytes Per Second..
If anyone knows of some good tweaks (That work with Windows XP). Please send me a private message or post a reply to this, if you know of any.

Thanks

Read through the Help thread below, after you have done that and applied the instructions, reboot and take a TCP/IP test on the top of the page, copy/paste results here.

Roadrunner is normally capped at 384kbits. You cannot increase that with any tweak.

My road runner isn't capped that low, my download rates are any where from 300 Kilobytes Per Second to 500 Kilobytes Per Second, depending on the time of day (Note: some times it may go a little faster or slower). Anyways my upload goes around 45 Kilobytes Per Second, and same as with my download. Some times it will go slower some times it will go faster. So it is possible that its capped, but it could be capped at 60 or 70 Kilobyes Per Second, Leaveing Me with some bandwidth to get..

By The Way: Kip are you using Road Runner?

(Still looking for someone on Road Runner (http://www.rr.com) who has tweaked up there speed with some registry patches)

Thanks

well my reason for needing a better upload speed is because i run an FTP for friends and i have some big files on there, and a lot of the people who download off me are college students with like T1 - T3 connections, and it really sucks my bandwidth up. so i wanna get my upload speed to 60 or 70 Kilobytes per second so i can cap my FTP at 40 and still be able to play games like Quake, Counter Strike etc..

If I help you… you’ll run an FTP server and slurp up all the bandwidth that I occupy. That doesn’t sound like fun for me.

Upload is typically capped MUCH lower than download speed for two reasons...

1. The "pipe" used for upload is much smaller than the "pipe" used for download.

2. The cable company does not want people running FTPs and gaming servers that hog the limited bandwidth that is available for upload.

This is typically ok for the "average" user, as they only send small amounts of data upstream.

People please if your not gonna post a reply that is helpful don't post at all. I really don't wanna hear your comments about what i need. I just want a tweak not a 1000 replys saying you would help but it will use your bandwidth, take a test, or comments about my ISP... People who have said you can not tweak it thats fine your replys are ok thats your opinion, but i still think i can get more out of my connection so i am still waiting for a helpful person!

just do the tweaks listed here

http://www.speedguide.net/Cable_modems/ ... ches.shtml

do the win2000 ones

also check here http://www.tweakxp.com

there is no specific patches to increase your upload....more than likely, the patches/tweaks will help increase both to their maximum potential.

Got news for you all, You can't tweak Upload speed. There are only 2 possible way to increase your upload speed. First is to subscribe to Roadrunner premium if you live in an area that offers it. which has speeds of 8/512 (1000K down/64K up) Or if you're lucky enough to live in the Tampa Florida area one of their 10/1 (1250K/125K) or 15/2 (1875K/250K) packages. All of these options will cost you a little more money per month though. If you don't live in an area with these services, you're stuck at 5/384.

i have road runner

as a communication tech in new york it is my understanding that the upload cap is on your isp end and can't be changed. What is strange though i have rr and my upload is 768k and my download is 2mb. So what i'm thinking is that maybe your pc is not up to par or maybe out dated and/or your nic card is old, crappy, or can't handle RR
