Help with DSL Tweak for WinXP

Post by RokitSiyents »

I'm on DSL and just installed WinXP. Need help with location of settings to change in the registry (ie mtu/DefaultRcvWindow/MaxFrameSize) and what are best patches to apply.

Thanks for any help.

Get Cablenut from my sig below, install, reboot, and install the SG Patches. Regular Cable if you are on non PPPoE, if you are, install the PPPoE patch and read over the Guide below. Take the test at the top of the page and paste results here. :)

PPPoE patch wont be optimal for Windows XP because the MTU doesn't go above 1480.

You can not edit the MTU size of a PPPoE based connection in Windows XP. I'm working with MS to find out why and try and force them to change it.
The difference between 1480 and 1492 is (IMO) minimal.

I agree with Bob, the speed diffenence in changing MTU of XP's 1480 to 1492 is BS :) :)

From 1480 to 1492 might not be a big difference to any of you, but it was a significant boost for me :D

Besides, there are patches for PPPoE with MTU of 1492, not 1480. Those patches are not optimal for it, and that's never good. But ok...

Lobo, set your MTU to 1488 and lets see if you don't lose speed. Don't say that DSL and Cable is different because we're talking about MTU values, which have the same affects in speeds for all connections.
