Windows 2000/Video Card Drivers

Post by jordanw77 »

I recently had Windows M.E. I switched to Windows 2000 Pro. I got all the new video card drivers for my graphics card, but my FPS are really low. Before I had 71 on Windows M.E. now I'm only getting about 25 FPS. I don't want to go back to Windows M.E. What should I do. Please help! I want to get back to gaming!!!!

PS-I have the Geforce 2 MX 200.

I had the same problem with my ATI xpert 2000. The ati held up ok in Win98SE but when I switched over to Win2k I lost atleast 30 frames per second.

I think it was a result of an older vid card and poor ati/win2k drivers

In general Win2k needs a beefier system to run perfectly. I ended up buying a Geforce2 GTS with the latest Nvidia reference drivers and now my frames are maxed out in Halflife.

I also picked up some extra ram, not sure if that helps fps though.

I suggest you make sure you have the latest drivers for your card, monitor & sound. These can all help improve performance.

Also look for some gaming tweaks related to your game. There is always some settings you can play with to help gain some extra Frames. ie: Lowering screen resolution

If all else fails get a better card or go back to WinME/Win98

Good luck!
