tiny firewall.a few questions

Post by frenchman »

i have just started using tiny personal firewall and so far i think its great.
it kind of reminds me of atguard(which i still use).i would like to know if when you are installing
tiny it tells you that net bios port is open then you choose your dial up adapter and ip
address and this is placed in the trusted address.is it safe to have theses ip ranges
eg(63.0.0.0/255.0.0.0)placed in there.and also when tiny prompts you that outbound
trafic is being attempted is it best to alow with the automatic settings or choose
advanced and set your own ports and so on.an example would be to let Microsoft Internet Explorer
protocol:tcp
direction :o utgoing
port:any port
application :o nly selected below
address type:any type
port type:any type
rule valid:always
actio :p ermit
with at guard it let you choose any or specific port, address or application when you made new rules.
thanks for any feed back on this.
also what is a tcpip kernel driver.tiny comes up with this outgong message when i log on.

As I understand it, your trusted address should be 127.0.0.1 (i.e., your computers host name) and the IP addresses of your router and other computers on your LAN (if any). I think the mask you showed would open up a lot, but I still have some reading to do on IP addressing.

Anyway, your netbios port shouldn't be open unless you are using it for something. Perhaps you should describe your setup in more detail.

There is a Tiny group on Yahoo that can provide a wealth of information, and has a significant FAQ. There are also threads in this forum and its counterpart at DSLReports, among others you could search.

Do you have the online manual for Tiny? Good guide and easy to follow. You will need Adobe Acrobat to read it. Just in case you don't, here'tis.
Hope it helps.

get the version of tiny firewall like the one in the pdf manual.my one does not come up with the prompts to block or permit the specific or any port address or application.it just does an automatic rule which you must edit later to make the rule more tailored to your needs.maybe it was an old version in the pdf manual but as long as there is a version which is not buggy or vunrable i would like to know where i may get it from.thanks for any help on this
