Needing Faster Cable Speed!! My Cable Is Slowing Down!! Help Me!!

Post by LAZYBONE »

my computer is 990mhz pentium 3 prosseser with 129 ram and my cable conetion has been slowing down VERY FAST!! and its gettin slower plz help!!!

TCP options string = 020405b40103030201010402

MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which is equal to MSS.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 256960
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 2 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 64240
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
64240 (MSS x 44)

bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 10278.4 kbps (1284.8 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 4111.36 kbps (513.92 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 52 hops
TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

Which OS are you running and who do you have for a provider?
The tweak is in for 98_me it appears. Are you using a router? How does your cable connect ie USB or NIC? :)

Well for @home, that does seem way off. How are you connected, USB or NIC and if your using a NIC do you have the latest drivers for it? Are you using @homes software and running through their proxy?

The @home proxy is safe to disable, it does slow you down quite a bit. USB is cable modem connecting to the Universal Serial Bus of your computer or does yours connect by a Network Interface Card?

What Operating System are you using? Win98se, Me, Win2000 etc. I want to make sure you have the proper tweaks installed before I have you do anything else.

Did Lobo have you install the Cablenut Adjuster? If so, are you familiar with it enough to use it? Try going to the "My Computer" Icon and right click it, come down to properties and click it, then go to the device manager tab. In device manager, look up and down the list for anything with a question mark (?) in yellow beside it. If you find one, let me know what it is.

You may not want to do this, but for the time being remove your printer from the system if it connects on the other USB Port. I think your having a conflict with resources and this might just confirm this. To remove the printer, IF IT CONNECTS by USB, simply unplug the usb connector from the back of your computer and then go back into the device manager, find the ? again and click to highlight the device and then click remove. You should get a warning message that asks if your sure you want to remove your printer from the system, if you have all the necessary software to reinstall the printer later on, go ahead and click yes, then shutdown the computer and restart it or reboot. Look in device manager again for any other ? that may or may not show up.

If you don't feel comfortable doing this, don't do it. Find a friend or someone knowledgeable in computers to come over and help you resolve the conflict and get the printer to install properly.

Let me know what you decide as I have to leave for awhile and won't be back on till later tonight around 930 pm EST.
I'll wait for your answer before I leave though!

First of all, what brand and model printer is it and do you have the software for it to reinstall? Is it connected to the USB port on the back of the computer or is it a large plug in type connector (Way different then the small. slim USB connector)?

Before we do anything, after I saw your msconfig post, you have spyware/adware running. This may be another cause of your problem. Let's leave the printer alone for now.

Go here and Get a Free Copy of AdAware and the Reference list just below the main file. Once you have this installed, take the new reference list and install it in the adaware folder. It will replace a file that already is there. The let me know when you have it installed and we'll get you configured to run it and get rid of the spyware.

Ad-aware signature file (ref # 091-27-06-01) 10.5kb

You need to put this in the lavasoft adaware folder. It will replace the one that is there already. You do want to replace or overwrite the existing file, when asked.

Go ahead and open the adaware program from your desktop and have everything in the left column checked except for you floppy drive if you have one. Then click the configuration tab, make sure there is a check mark in Mark all references by default and Safe Mode.
Then in the additional options, a check in, include log file detail level and include additional file information.

Then click proceed until the program starts scanning. It'll take about 4 or 5 minutes altogether to complete. Then let me know what all it wants to remove.

The programs that are associated with the spyware, may not work after it is removed. Are you using Bearshare or Audiogalaxy?
You will need to consider alternative programs that don't have the garbage in it!
