I can suggest a few things:
1) Try setting up a new network connection using the "make new connection" wizard.
2) You could move the NIC card toi a different PCI slot.
3) Or try another NIC.
2 or 3 will end up chaning your dual boot NIC settings as well, changing PCI slots will likely only result in your dual boot OS reloading the drivers from the inf founf on the drive - of course a new NIC will entail the usual driver loading and potential hazards that go with it.

Well, I for one will never use XP as long as they have "activation required" to use it. I'm sorry, but it's none of their business if I install a new motherboard and what not. Also, if they get this info whats to stop them from getting more? And no, I do not believe that MS is compliant with all the laws of the land. Just my 2cents. hehe
I can't say that I disagree with you, but I'm pretty tollerent (=lazy) about most things anyway.
I usually rebuild 3 to 4 times a year, but I've been languishing with a KK266 for 6 months that I just love, so I haven't done anything with mine - just for others.
I have been reading some of the horror stories of office XP activitation woes. I suppose then I get locked out of my system I'll change my "tollerant" story in a big hurry. LOL

Well i've had XP build 2505 (RC1) the day it came out and had only one prob with it error writing to a database that runs the iis,
probably due to the fact i installed over top of build 2465 beta 2
but as far as networking is concerned, i had more troubles with the beta 2, and there are plenty of cracks out there to remove the time limitation, (get the one with reset2.exe and popup.bat in the zip file - its the only one thats easy to use and actually works correctly - STAY AWAY FROM THE SOLARIX CRACK!!!)
for the prob, make shure u put your nic card into an un shared pci slot (try the second or 3rd from the agp slot), you might have to move some stuff around but that might fix the prob, and when goin through the internet connectio wizzard chose other, the comp is not on a network, and connects directly to the net...
for some reason microsoft made the new wizard a little confusing...
