How to break the 128 K cap on @home Cable

Post by Altema »

@home Cable caps their upload at 128. My speed is about 120k up, but my friend has the same service and gets 350k. How can get speeds like that?? :(

He is either lying to you, on rude acid, or he is paying for faster service.

No tweak will break your cap nor can you uncap yourself in any way.

If you have a 128Kb cap you can probably upload @ 15KBps

I heard through the grape vine of a @home upload uncapping hack but Im almost positive it was some kind of virus/trojan or some morons imagination running wild.

If you and your friend both have the same cable company and area, then he probably is lying or paying for higher service, but @home service doesnt necesarily mean you both get the same service. Your cable companies may have diferent set limits for diferent areas. I've got my up maxed out at 284 w/ @home

the 128K upload cap isn't as strongly enforced as the download caps are. I am not saying that you can get 256K up or nothing like that, jsut that you can get a little over it. I generally upload at aroud 17.5 KB/s which is a little above what I should be able to upload at my cap is 128 Kb (16KB/s). Though it is by no means super fast. If they offered more speed I would be the first in line to buy it, alas, they do not and the at home pro is the exact same thing as at home jsut that it costs more (about 50 bucks more) and the only thing it has that my regular @ home doesn't have is remote logging which I have set up myself on my machine so BLAH on @home. I am looking for a better ISP.

I am willing to pay more but I am not willing to pay over 120 /mo. and as of yet I have found nothing that can compare to @home as far as speed at cost. So for now i am kinda stuck unless some peeps in the Fort wanna go in on an OC3 with me lol :D

if he just got the service i'm not suprised if he has a higher upload. When i first go my service i had uploads of 800kbps. But now got the 128 cap. My friend 7 houses down just go the service yesterday and he has uploads of 950kbps.

Well, where I live (southern ontario) the upload cap is 350k. It seems that the cap is more strongly enforced in teh states while in Canada we gets better speeds :p

yeah i guess there is no way to uncapp. Oh well. My friend in Canada had his cable going around 500/100, and my other friend tweaked it for him and now he gets 2-5meg/2meg. So canada must not be so strict on caps. Oh well. If anyone is ever frustrated by your connection, just say "its better than 56k its better than 56k its better than 56k"
