speed guide tcp/ip registry tweaks

Post by MarcA1955 »

I utilized speedguides registry tweak for DSL tcp/ip settings using PPP0E and rebooted. when I booted back up. IE 5.5 would not find any pages. I had to click on discover network settings in order to start it working. when i tried to import the registry save i did just before installing the tweak i was told it could not access the registry. i would like to either make this tweak work or go back to my default settings. any idea on what happened and how to repair it?

Boot on on startup disk or boot disk into DOS at prompt type: scanreg /restore (space between g and /) and select date prior to installing patch, press enter.
I don't know why you would have had problems, try what I said above and come back and we will try different patch :)

It really does not matter what is in your registry now as where I want you to go, his speed patch will take registry back to default first before appling his, then you need to come back to patch page this site and download faster loading of web pages patch, if you did it before you must do it again as Cablenuts patch uninstalled it, do this:
Go to www,Cablenut.com, click on software at top of page :D ownload 4.0 and 4xx to 4.02. 4xx to 4.02 updates 4.0. Cablenuts patch will uninstall prior patches before applying his.
(vtcp386 patch is only for users of 98 and SE).This is located on right hand side of page.
(NOTE Win 95 users need vtcp386 and Winsock for Win 95) these are located on right hand side of page. Install 4.0 then install 4xx to 4.02 .
On desktop will be a Cablenut 4.0 folder, click on this folder, select ccs, then select
PPPoE/DSL (select your ccs file-settings)
Select normal or fast settings according to instructions.
This will bring up adjuster, blank boxes just mean default values are being used, click on save to registry at bottom and REBOOT for it to work, Please check back for updates or reading. Before coming back, do this please: take our TCP/IP Analyzer test at top of Tweak Forum page so I can be sure patch is in.

At top where it says edit click and select, Select all,
Then go back to same edit button at top, click and select copy.
Come back to Speedguide, same thread you were on, in post reply box, with cursor blinking at begining of box go to top, edit, click, select paste, click, this will put information in box. Thank you.
If you installed the Web patch (Faster loading of web pages) you have to install it again as Cablenuts patch uninstalled it prior to installing his, all you have to do is go where you unzipped it to and click on it and reboot. Those who do not have patch go to main page this site, patch page go down until you see the one for your OS and download and install. Thank you
(NOTE: If you change RWIN size number you must change GlobalmaxWindosize to the same number)
Also you have to experiment to see which settings work best for you, normal or fast cable settings, I have seen people with 400 CPU get better speed with fast settings. If it does not work for you, go back to normal cable settings.
(NOTE) inside Cablenut 4.0 folder on desktop it says adjuster if you click on 4.0 on desktop. RIGHT click on adjuster and select shortcut to desktop, same with reboot.

Check back often for updates
:) :)

Unfortunately I don't have a boot disk and my win20000 cd is at work. I did already try the patch that brings it back to default. also tried the generic win2000 dsl tweak with the same results.

Please follow above directions as it will take registry back to default prior to installing his patch :)

I went out to Cablenut but the patches you are referring to seem to be for OS's other than win2000?

Ok, I dl'ed and installed both cablenut patches. Maybe i am choosing the wrong ccs but it tells me i have chosen win2000 but my OS is win 95,98,ME. Unfortunately I DO have win2000. Also, when i try to bring up one of the 2K files it initializes the windows installer and starts to look for Telephony?
