Do ethernet cards really make a difference?

Post by goose »

I have this generic SMA PCI card, ya know the one that came with @home, and i'm thinkin' of slapping in of those good old 3Com cards. Will it really a difference with my transfers? So far i'm crusin' at about 75-120kb/s d/l. Has anyone noticed a big improvement or what?

For only Cable/ADSL...probably not. For your home LAN system...maybe. The brand name higher priced NIC's offer superior driver support and compatibilty/reliabilty.

@home's policy is give give you the cheapest card possible when the do the install of your cable modem.

I promptly tossed out the one they gave me and put in a nice Realtek card.

It has certainly improved my LAN performance, as well as my cable perfomance.
