The site has been under a DDoS attack for the past couple of days, you may have noticed posting to the forums was disabled at times (when server load is high), and the site was sluggish to load, unresponsive at times.
Seems it was a targeted attack to the site, as other IPs in our block and the secondary backup server were not affected. Many IP ranges were blocked at the firewall, especially connections from countries we don't normally serve, static server blocks, Tor nodes, etc. I'm still working through connection logs and alerts. This attack was difficult to combat as the botnet/IP ranges were very diverse and from many different geographic locations. The attack lasted a long time, over 48 hours. I also tried mitigating some of the issues by bouncing traffic through Cloudflare proxy yesterday, but there was a SSL certificate issue with that approach, will look into it again for a more robust/permanent solution. Still, all things considered the SG server performed well through it, just that it took me all day to deal with it heh.
The attack has subsided for the past 3 hours. Please excuse the inconvenience.
