Vintage 10 Speed Bike

Post by Lurch »

I got this bike tuned up today. I now have about $200 into it. It's quite a nice bike to ride.
It has new tires, shift cables, and brake pads.
They gave me some flack at the bike shop about buying 2 vintage girl's bikes, bc I'm a male.
I was a bit shocked they had such hang ups about it.
He said he'd never be seen riding a girl's bike, but the thought never crossed my mind.
I enjoy this bike and I'm going to ride it.
This is a lovely Sears Roebuck Free Spirit 10 speed from the 70s or 80s.

There aren't a lot of people where I ride anyway, and I don't honestly care if people notice me riding a girl's bike.
Should it matter to me?
I prefer their bike shop because they're older guys and have more experience with vintage bikes.

It would look better if I had put tanwall tires on it, like what it had.
I ordered some but it was going to take another week so I bought some new black wall tires locally.

I think the whole photo would have posted if I had posted a smaller photo. I will try that now.

It does my heart good to resurrect old bikes and see them shine again.

I bought this bike with it. This one didn't need much tuning up.
It's a vintage 3 speed Kmart Allpro bike.
It shifts real nice, but it's geared too high.
I'm going to change the front sprocket to one with less teeth.

About 5 years ago, while Mrs. Easto and I were on a walk through the neighborhood we found this bike that someone had put out on their parkway with a "Free" sign on it. It's a '70's Schwinn Super Sport. I restored it the best I could and my wife never really bonded with it so I was able to sell it for what I put into it.
