First thing, GET a refund back from that network guy!!!
Second, Bell Atlantic DSL will work on your NT server.
Third, how to setup DSL sharing. Since you have DSL running on your Win98 machine already, we will go from there. Get another NIC and install in the Win98 machine. Once that's done, you will have 1 NIC connected to the DSL modem and the other NIC to the hub. Install Wingate or SyGate and you're set.

First: I'd rather figure out a way to do this and have him do it.
second: according to Bell atlantic's own infospeed installation instructions, it runs only on NT Workstation ("NT server is not currently supported."
Third, and most importantly - We already have two NIC cards in the Win98 machine, one connected to the hub, the other connected to the dsl modem. We tried BOTH Sygate and Wingate. While sygate never worked, wingate worked for a short while (a week or two) before mysteriously Not working, on every computer but one. Everybody was completely stumped by this eratic behavior. Repeated attempts could not get wingate to work again.
so, is wingate or sygate the only ways to network internet access with a dynamic ip address?

Networking DSL without static IP
O.K., here's mt problem. I have DSl infospeed from Bell Atlantic - who promises that you can hook up a LAN to their service, they just will not supply networking support. But Bell Atlantic does not supply a static IP address, only a dynamic one. They insist that one can still network internet access with a dynamic ip, but cannot tell me specifically how (or even point to a person who can.)
Is this possible? I hired a networking guy (at $100 an hour) who says it is not - after attempting to use Wingate, unsuccessfully. (same failure with SyGate). by the way, I am running a windows nt 4.0 server with 98 boxes hooked off of it, through an Assante 10 base T hub. The bell atlantic service is currently running on one of the 98 boxes. (Info speed does not work on NT server.)
Bell Atlantic insists it is possible to network with a dynamic ip address. Are they lying to me?
Thanks,
Steve Zink
Please email me or post a response.
p.s. I know, I know, I should drop Bell Atlantic for somebody who supports networking. Megapath was recomended to me, but they charge three times as much. But I would gladly switch to somebody who could give me a static IP at 1.6 mbps at only $100 a month, if anybody knows of anybody (in Dobbs Ferry, NY.)

It doesn't matter if it's static or dynamic IP... your problem is either with the Wingate configuration and/or your TCPIP configuration for your network. Are you assigning IP's with same subnet, same gateway for the PC or are you using Wingate to assign IP's with its DHCP service?
Can you ping the Win98 from other PC's?

Quick and easy.. Netgear RT311 DSL router. Hook the router and the Clients to a hub and standback! The router will take the dynamic IP from Bell and then secure the private network behind a built in NAT. All the clients on the private net can use the built in DHCP on the router to get their IP and Gateway info.
You can pick up these routers from Buy.com for around $100. Linksys makes one that does the same thing, but seems to have a few bugs yet.
good luck
