Sprint Broadband/Speedchoice LAN

Post by pc »

I have ordered the Sprint Broadband service because USWORST has terrible service. Does anyone use Sprint today? If so, do you have a lan set up and connected to share the bandwidth. Did you purchase the one IP service and subnet through the NAT in the router or How did you set up your lan? I am reviewing a configuration utilizing a linksys router and a hp procurve 408 switch (for additional ports). I appreciate your feedback.

I have (or, up until last Friday, had) the Speedchoice/Sprint Broadband service (One way) in the Detroit, Michigan area. If you don't have cable modem or DSL service in your area, this is your best bet. (I *just* got a cable modem :).

When I first got the service (over 2 years ago) I shared the connection using NAT32. Worked great for over a year and a half. When Windows 2000 came out, I gave the internet connection sharing a try, which worked great for over 6 months. About 3 weeks ago, in preparation of the cable modem install, I purchased a Linksys router and put that in place. Speedchoice works great with the Linksys as well.

I had a minor problem with high winds about a year ago, which almost ripped the antenna down off of my roof. Speedchoice came by to repair free of charge within 24 hours.

I have no horror stories to give you regarding Speedchoice. It's an excellent service when nothing else is available. I've had them all except DSL - DirecPC, ISDN, Speedchoice, and now cable.

Keep in mind that with the one-way service, gaming (Like Quake, etc) is unplayable - at least for me it was.

Hope this helps making your decision.
