between two modem/routers

Post by zoran »

Hello... if you were to select a modem router between these two:
ThomsonTG585 and the T-Link Archer C50, which one would you prefer and why? I dont really understand the specs and i cant decide which is better![/URL]

They are different devices.

Thomson TG585 is an "ADSL" modem + WiFi router. It is a quality brand name, but older technology. Supports the older 802.11n WiFi standard. I wouldn't recommend it for new setups, especially if you don't need the "ADSL modem" part of it.

TP-Link Archer C50 is a WiFi router (only). It is a newer model, supports faster 802.11ac WiFi standard. I am not particularly found of the brand (I don't like their reliability track record), but they are ok as prices are usually very competitive.

To answer your question, neither. If you are only looking for a WiFi router, the second one is a newer/better standard, but I'd rather buy an Asus RT-AC68u or something. I hope this helps.
Disclaimer: Please use caution when opening messages, my grasp on reality may have shaken loose during transmission (going on rusty memory circuits), even though my tin foil hat is regularly audited for potential supply chain tampering. I also eat whatever crayons are put in front of me.

Oh im sorry i made a mistake on the name of the TP-Link, this is the one im referring to, which is a modem router!
Philip other than disliking TP-Links i gotta say that the Asus u recommend is almost triple the price... is it really worth it? Why would someone pay all this money for the Asus, what does it have to give?

I would go with the TP-Link since it is newer and supports 802.11ac WiFi. If you need ADSL modem+WiFi router, that Asus model wouldn't work for you anyway..

What do you think of this TP-Link VR200 model?

Between these two models...
TP-Link Archer VR200 https://www.speedguide.net/routers/tp-l ... gabit-3749
TP-Link Archer D50 https://www.speedguide.net/routers/tp-l ... adsl2-3657

The only notable difference I see is that the D50 has two radios in the 5GHz band, while the VR200 has one.
