What kind of actual speed are you getting ? Cable or DSL ?

Keep in mind that you can only improve your end of the connection, it is still limited by the line that your ISP actually provides.

its CABLE, I am getting 512kbps
and my ISP advertise for 6Mbps and i have subscribed for 6Mbps

I would start by placing the modem a couple of feet away from other possible sources of EMI (routers, power supplies, computers, fluorescent lights), and checking the signal levels, there is some general info here: http://www.speedguide.net/faq/what-cabl ... ed-good-78

If the speed drops during peak times (5pm-12am), it could indicate congestion in the area or some other problem. Does the speed fluctuate at random, or does it stay that slow constantly ?
