Drive image software that can create live recovery media

Post by Faust »

Howdy, gents. I know you can create say, a recovery DVD or flash media with many if not most drive image software. However (in my past experiences) you were basically running the imaging software in from a live boot media. In my case that was fine, but I was wondering if there was one that can create something more like a OEM recovery disc/flash drive where you don't need to know how to use drive image software or know anything about partitions, boot sectors or file systems. I was reminded at work how nice that soft or thing can be when our video inspection system went down (the DRO is basically a desktop computer) and we couldn't find the recovery disc. I'd like to be able to create a recovery disc that anybody could use to recover with little to know computer knowledge.

Anything out there like this?

Much appreciated, guys.

Morning Wanker! Can ya fly yet? :D

Easiest, hand-holding backup-restore I've seen for residential users is EaseUS ToDo.
Google it up, check out the videos.

We use StorageCraft for our clients...that's more of a straight up boot CD like imaging software like you initially describe.
EaseUS ToDo...it still is basically the backup software itself on the bootable media...and it still talks about partitions...which I know you don't want, but the GUI is quite hand-holding which may be enough to get end users over the hurdle.

Acronis True Image also has bootable media with easy recovery... You still have to pick which partition you want it restored on, and pick an option what to do if it is a different size though ;)

YeOlde, lol I tried flying again in War Thunder aaaaaand let's just say I was reminded of my epic suck. Maybe I should just stick to Free Cell :p .

Seriously though, I just picked up a copy of EaseUs ToDo (great price). I have used Paragon since ~'09 and am familiar with it but have been debating Acronis for my own use. I'll check them both out, and the easier of the two will get used at work.

Thank you, fellas!
