TCP Optimizer is being stopped from changing my settings on Vista computer

Post by leoliver »

Hi Everybody,

Recently a Friend gave me her Win Vista SP2 Home Premium computer. I downloaded TCP Optimizer, set the MTU and went for the optimal settings. After re-start I discovered that my current settings were UN-changed. And I chose the "run as administrator" option. I did this twice with the same results.
I never had this problem using TCP Optimizer on my older Win XP Pro SP3 computer. So I'm assuming it"s a Vista security issue . If so, are there any "work arounds " for this problem ?
Thanks.
Your Friend,
Larry

Did you select the correct Network Adapter when setting MTU ?
When you select the correct NIC -> Optimal settings -> click on "Apply", look at the "Apply Settings" screen for a line that says "MTU", what does that entire line say ?

Lastly, look at the "Setting MTU" section in this article: http://www.speedguide.net/articles/wind ... weaks-2574

In "elevated" command prompt, do: netsh int ipv4 show subinterface
What network interfaces do you see, does one of them coincide with the one in the TCP Optimizer above ?
If you do this below command in command prompt, does it survive reboots (put proper network interface name between quotes) ?
netsh interface ipv4 set subinterface "..........." mtu=1500 store=persistent

Note that your ISP or DSL modem may be limiting MTU as well, regardless of settings on your end.
