Last thing I do before I go the sleep is let my 3 indoor dogs out.
If they're going to chase a cat or something, it happens in the first 10 seconds.
Let them out around 1 AM. They're just sniffing around and pissing. Ducked inside for about 30 seconds, came out and the younger border collie was gone.
Weird, if any one dog chases something they all do, and the other two are still sniffing around.
Put them inside, grabbed a flashlight and walked about 100 yards both directions from my driveway quietly calling and whistling for him (out in the quasi country). Nothing.
(Normally he comes back after a couple hours, other times I've found him 1/2 mile away on the wrong side of 60mph traffic, or with livestock where he could be shot).
Knew that if came back and I wasn't there he'd just keep roaming.
Grabbed a ThermaRest and sleeping bag and crashed with by blue heeler next to my truck. Maybe 2 AM.
Seemed like the right thing to do.
Woke at 4:30 to a raccoon fight with no heeler and no border collie.
Flashlight, walked and called, nothing.
Got dressed, keys and wallet, back out the front door and there they both are, just sitting and looking at me
I figure Leo came back, as I figured he would, Ember woke up, they sniffed and wagged and left me to go off together sniffing after the raccoons.
I didn't even scold, just told them to GTF inside, crashed in my bed finally for a few hours before work.
Oif, dogs.
